Day Eight 2015 Jean Batten

I went to the airport today to pick up Cousin Maree and took photos of Jean Batten's plane and her statue. I have always been interested in her history as I went to a school named after her, and I saw her when she came to our school in 1970 when she was 61. I remember she was dressed all in white, and had white hair and a white hat. She is considered our greatest aviator flying solo through the 1930s. After a few unsuccessful attempts she flew from London to Australia and back again in 1934. In 1936 she did the first ever direct flight from England to New Zealand. She eventually died in Majorca 1982 supposedly from a dog bite. She was buried in a paupers' mass grave.
